The American Joshua Bell sprang to the forefront when he was only 14 years old, by debuting with Muti and the Philadelphia Orchestra. Since then, he has been among the most celebrated violinists of his generation (he was born in 1967): he plays all over the world, in historic concert halls as well as alternative venues, for connoisseurs and neophytes, and always with success. He is an exclusive Sony Classical artist, and he can boast of many awards and distinctions. He is music director of the Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields – the sole musician to hold that post since Sir Neville Marriner (who died in 2016) founded the orchestra in 1958. He is debuting at the Quartetto with the pianist Sam Haywood, with whom he forms an excellent duo.
