TUESDAY 1 OCTOBER 2019, ore 20.30 – Conservatorio “G. Verdi”

Krystian Zimerman piano
Marysia Nowak violin
Katarzyna Budnik viola
Yuka Okamoto cello

Brahms – Quartet for piano and strings No. 2 in A Major, Op. 26
Mahler – Quartet for piano and strings in A minor
Brahms – Quartet for piano and strings No. 3 in C minor, Op. 60

The Quartetto’s season opens with a concert that can with good reason be called an event: the return of Krystian Zimerman, one of the most beloved protagonists of the international concert scene, who first appeared with us in 1977. We know him well as a soloist and a sorcerer of the keyboard, but we will now rediscover him as a “first among equals”, in a chamber music group delicately balanced between strings and piano. The distinguished programme choice is a perfect homage to high Viennese Romanticism. First, we’ll hear the alternately excitable and tempered impulsiveness of Brahms, but also a true rarity (and a brief one): the first and only chamber work by Mahler, written when he was still a student, enchanted by the Brahmsian “sound”.
