This highly attractive concert is entrusted to Simone Rubino, a 25-year-old percussionist from Turin, who recently won the Abbiati Prize: Italian music critics gave him this award for his exhilarating energy as a performer. Indeed, he is one of the liveliest and most original artists of our time, prodigious in his technical abilities and spectacular in his musical versatility. After having won the 2014 ARD competition in Munich, he immediately set out on a brilliant career as a soloist, in addition to collaborating with important ensembles and conductors and participating in festivals and projects. Among his most recent undertakings were concerts for percussion soloists and orchestra with the Vienna Philharmonic at the Lucerne Festival, with the Munich Philharmonic at Carnegie Hall, with the Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia conducted by Manfred Honeck, with the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino orchestra conducted by Zubin Mehta and with the Deutsches Symphonie Orchester at Berlin’s Philharmonie. For his Quartetto debut he is presenting a programme that makes use of all of his instruments’ expressive and virtuosic capabilities.
