The Società del Quartetto di Milano was founded in 1863 by Arrigo Boito, Tito Ricordi and other preeminent figures of the Milanese cultural society in order to share knowledge and passion for music.

In over 150 years, the Società del Quartetto’s Season has contributed to the history of music in Italy with extraordinary events such as the first Italian performance of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony (1878) and Bach’s Passion according to Matthew (1911). Today, the Società del Quartetto is unanimously considered one of the most prestigious musical institutions in Europe.
